Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi (born January 30, 1984 in Shaker Heights, Ohio), also known as Kid Cudi, is an American hip-hop artist who first gained attention after the release of his debut mixtape A Kid Named Cudi.
Kid Cudi released his first mixtape, A Kid Named Cudi, in collaboration with New York street wear brand 10.Deep as a free download. The mixtape features a guest appearance from DC rapper Wale and caught the attention of Kanye West which spawned his signing to the GOOD Music Label.
In early September 2008, he performed at the 2008 VMA's along side Travis Barker and DJ AM. Kid Cudi is featured on Kanye West's 2008 album, 808s & Heartbreak, singing with him on the track "Welcome to Heartbreak", providing additional vocals on "Paranoid" and helping with songwriting on "Heartless". Even though it hasn't been released as a single yet, "Welcome to Heartbreak" managed to peak at number eighty-seven on the Pop 100. and a music video for the song has since been released.
Kid Cudi was featured in XXL magazine and BBCs featured on the longlist for the BBC News website's Sound of 2009 poll of up-and-coming acts. He has also been featured in Vibe magazine, Complex magazine, The Source magazine, and Rolling Stone magazine as a "hot" and upcoming artist to watch.
He is finishing up his debut album Man on the Moon: The Guardians for a Summer 2009 release.
On February 17, 2009, Kid Cudi made his TV debut on Snoop Dogg's new MTV talk show Dogg After Dark performing "Day 'n' Nite" at the end of the show. Two days later on February 19, 2009, Cudi appeared on BET's 106 & Park to debut the video of Day 'n' Nite with Kanye West. On March 16, 2009 Kid Cudi performed on MTVU's 2009 Spring Break special. On March 17, 2009 he appeared on "Last Call with Carson Daly" and performed three songs on the show.
Release in February 2009 Kid Cudi is featured in Solange Knowles music video "T.O.N.Y".
On February 25, 2009 Kid Cudi self-leaked a "teaser trailer" for the upcoming Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen movie using Sky Might Fall, later he posted that he made the trailer himself and now was in talks to possibly make it official, due to all of the hype it has recived and how well it fit the 30-second teaser trailer for the movie.
In March 2009, Cudi announced a deal at Universal Motown where he will release his debut album Man on the Moon: The Guardians in Summer 2009.
On March 16, 2009, Kid Cudi announced that he would be retiring from hip-hop after the release of his first solo album and album with Chip tha Ripper, due to comments made by Wale about him in Joe Budden's video log. Later that day Wale posted on his Twitter that him and Cudi were cool and that Cudi was not going to retire. On March 19, 2009, Cudi confirmed that he was not going to retire on stage at Austin, TX's SXSW 2009 festival.
